Mp-81 Armchairs by Percival Lafer in Wood and Leather

The Percival Lafer "MP 81" Armchairs, designed in 1972, exemplifies Brazilian Modern design. 

These distinguished armchairs, showcases meticulous craftsmanship with a combination of dark wood and natural full-grain leather. The rounded forms and deep, cushioned seats offer a strong identity. The contrast between the dark wood frame and light brown leather upholstery, along with the tone-on-tone leather straps on the armrests, give a distinctive personality to the piece.

 Lafer’s design features a unique structural detail where the legs appear to blend seamlessly into the frame, angled inward to enhance visual fluidity. The balloon-like armrests and headrests, alongside the extra-deep seats, embody a club style that provides generous space, plush and low-back comfort.

Considered one of the fathers of Brazilian Modern design, along with Sergio Rodrigues, Jorge Zalszupin, and Oscar Niemeyer, Percival Lafer started his career as a car mechanic. His contributions to Brazilian design are significant. The “MP 81” set has adorned notable locations such as the Hotel Fasano in São Paulo and the private residences of influential figures in Brazil.
