Aldo Londi Italian Ceramic Bowl, 1960s
Aldo Londi (1911-2003) was an Italian ceramic artist and designer who is best known for his work with the Italian ceramics company Bitossi Ceramiche. Londi started working for Bitossi in 1946, and he went on to become the company's artistic director in 1959, a position he held until his retirement in 1980.
Londi's designs for Bitossi are characterized by their bold shapes, bright colors, and intricate patterns. He was particularly known for his use of abstract geometric motifs and for his experimentation with glazes and surface textures.
Some of Londi's most famous designs for Bitossi include the "Rimini Blu" series, which featured vases and other ceramic objects in a striking blue glaze, as well as the "Sahara" series, which was inspired by the textures and colors of the desert.
Londi's work with Bitossi helped to establish the company as one of the leading producers of Italian ceramics in the mid-20th century, and his designs continue to be highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today.
