Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) was an Italian architect and designer, best known for founding the Memphis Group in the 1980s, which had a profound impact on postmodern design. Sottsass had a long and diverse career, and his work spanned various disciplines, including architecture, industrial design, and ceramics.

In the early 1980s, Sottsass founded the Memphis Group, a design collective that brought together young designers and artists. The group's designs were characterized by bold colors, geometric shapes, and a rejection of the minimalism of the preceding decades.

The Memphis Group had a significant influence on the design world and is often associated with the postmodern movement.
Sottsass had a successful career as an architect. He worked on a variety of projects, including residential buildings, office spaces, and public spaces. One of his notable architectural works is the Beverly Hills home for David and Ginny Sydorick, known as the "David and Ginny Sydorick House" (1984).
Sottsass was known for his rejection of strict design rules and his embrace of individual expression and creativity. His designs often incorporated bright colors, asymmetry, and a sense of playfulness.

Ettore Sottsass's influence on design is significant, and his work continues to be celebrated and studied. His designs are often featured in design museums, and his impact on postmodern design remains a subject of interest for designers and enthusiasts alike
