1990s Kinnasand “Jive” Wool Rug

A striking “Jive” wool rug, designed by Catharina Dramborg for Kinnasand in the 1990s. This example is presented in a particularly rich blue colourway, combining a deep petrol blue central field with a lighter blue outer border and graphic accents in turquoise, purple, black and vibrant red.

The repeated geometric motifs are carefully positioned across the central field, while the striped border creates a strong architectural frame around the composition. The combination of saturated colour and precise geometry gives the rug a distinctive late 20th-century character while remaining highly versatile in a contemporary interior.

Kinnasand — A Historic Swedish Textile Company

Kinnasand has its roots in Kinna, Sweden, where its mechanical weaving mill was established in 1873. Over the following century, the company developed from a traditional Swedish textile manufacturer into an internationally recognised producer of furnishing fabrics, carpets and interior textiles.

Throughout its history, Kinnasand became recognised for its emphasis on textile design, material quality and graphic pattern, working with notable Scandinavian designers and developing collections for the international interiors market.

The Jive rug comes from this later period of Kinnasand's production, combining the company's textile heritage with a bold use of colour, geometry and pattern.

Crafted from pure new wool pile, this Jive rug retains its original documentation identifying Catharina Dramborg as designer and confirming that the rug was made in India exclusively for Kinnasand Carpet.

The documentation identifies this particular example as Colour No. 34, with Roll No. 677 and Stock No. 342, providing excellent provenance for the piece.

Its deep blue central field is contrasted by a lighter blue perimeter, while the purple-and-black striped border and small red geometric motifs create depth and visual rhythm. At approximately 173 × 242 cm, it is ideally proportioned for a living room, bedroom, study or beneath a dining setting.
