1990s Kinnasand “Jive” Wool Rug

A striking “Jive” wool rug, designed by Catharina Dramborg for Kinnasand, dating to the 1990s. The piece features a soft ivory and grey field punctuated by small geometric motifs in burgundy, red and dark green, surrounded by a bold graphic border.

The restrained palette and strong geometric composition give the rug a distinctly 1990s European design character, while remaining exceptionally versatile for contemporary interiors.

Kinnasand — A Historic Swedish Textile Company

Kinnasand has its roots in Kinna, Sweden, where its mechanical weaving mill was established in 1873. Over the following century, the company developed from a traditional Swedish textile manufacturer into an internationally recognised producer of furnishing fabrics, carpets and interior textiles.

Kinnasand's history includes collaborations with significant figures in Scandinavian textile design, including Timo Sarpaneva and Ingrid Dessau. During the 1990s, the company entered a particularly design-focused period under Proventus ownership, developing new textiles and working across art, design and experimental textile production.

The Jive rug belongs to this period of Kinnasand's history and is a beautiful example of the company's approach to pattern, material and interior textile design.

Hand-Knotted Pure New Wool

The rug retains its original Kinnasand label, identifying the model as Jive and crediting Catharina Dramborg as designer.

The manufacturer's label also specifies pure new wool pile and hand-knotted construction, with the rug made in India exclusively for Kinnasand Carpet. Kinnasand had moved its carpet production to India by the mid-1980s, working with skilled local weavers for its rug production.

With its generous proportions and subtle geometric detailing, the rug works beautifully in a living room, dining room, bedroom or gallery-style interior, pairing particularly well with both vintage and contemporary furniture.
